Property Owner Beware...

It has come to the Registry of Deed’s attention that companies such as National Deed Service, Inc. are mailing letters to residents of Worcester County offering to obtain certified copies of their deed for a cost of $59.50.

The only way for an individual to obtain a certified copy of a document recorded at the Registry of Deeds is to come to the Registry in person. The fee for this is $1 per page. However, you can obtain a standard copy of any of our records at no charge from our website, www.worcesterdeeds.com. If you have any questions about your deed or how to obtain it, please contact our office at (508) 798-7717.

To Anonymous,

Thank you for your comments.

Your are correct that a person hired by the National Deed Service, Inc. could obtain a certified copy and mail it to the National Deed Service, Inc. However, the certified copy of the deed would cost $1 per page averaging $1 to $2. A customer could also order a certified copy from the Registry by sending a request in the mail with a check and an addressed, stamped return envelope. Our records may be found online at www.worcesterdeeds.com and www.masslandrecords.com.

With respect to your waste in government comments, the conversion from the food court to the Registry of Deeds was paid for by the landlord. Additionally, the Registry was evicted from the Courthouse and was mandated to find a new site. A budget was given to the Registry of Deeds for moving and related expenses. The Registry completed the move under budget.

Dear Anonymous

YOU are wrong! $59.50 to get a certified copy of my deed??? - Are you CRAZY!! what on earth would anyone need a "certified copy" of their deed for???? Go online and print it for free or go to the registry and get one - a copy - I have been an re paralegal for 10 years and have NEVER needed a CERTIFIED COPY of a DEED - although I suppose there is always a chance that it may come up.
PS why are you anonymous :~) ??
